A self-confessed skincare nerd, Erica Jade loves nothing more than testing new skincare products (especially when they spruik hydration). After taking part in our recent Skintervention campaign shoot, we quizzed Erica about some of her favourite skincare ingredients, upcoming trends and what the most common skincare concern is that her followers ask her about…
When searching for skincare, what's the number one ingredient you look for to target your skin concern?
I definitely look for a few, I’m a skincare nerd when it comes to ingredients. My top picks would be hyaluronic acid because my skin is so dehydrated at the best of times. Hyaluronic acid holds a thousand times its weight in water so you can just imagine how good the skin looks after a big drink of that. The Tasmanian Spring Water range is packed full of it (plus a tonne of other skin-loving ingredients) so it’s one that I often reach for.
What skincare advice would you give to your younger self?
You are not invincible from the god damn sun! Wear SPF everyday because all the cool people wear sunscreen.
What is your favourite skincare hack?
Less is more, always. I used to think having a 17-step skincare routine was key however since understanding ingredients better and working in the beauty industry for four years, it’s all about quality over quantity for me. I love that Sand & Sky share that philosophy too. You can definitely have a range of different skincare products (and believe me I do) but you don’t need to whack them all on your face before bed. Your skin can only handle so much... take it easy.
Favourite Sand & Sky product and why?
I am going to be a little naughty here and talk to you about my favourite two. Only because I can’t spilt these products up. I absolutely adore the Dreamy Glow Drops because it’s made for those like me, who have to fake the dewy look. I absolutely cannot achieve the makeup base I want without help from this product. Whenever I wear these drops underneath my foundation, I’m constantly asked what primer or makeup I’m wearing. It’s great for non-makeup days too when you want a little extra somthin’ on your skin, but want to look like it’s allllllll natural. My second fave is a classic and I’m sure you all have tried it before. The OG pink clay mask from Sand & Sky – the Porefining Face Mask - saves my face on breakout days (cue that time of the month when your skin decides it’s time to throw a tantrum) and is so easy to use. The mask leaves my skin feeling refined and reduces the appearance of redness around any congested areas. Sometimes when I’ve had a week of full heavy glam makeup, or on the off chance I accidentally fall asleep in it (we’ve all been there, I blame cocktails most of the time) I use this in my self-care routine to really get alllll the gunk out of my pores. It’s sorta the product I didn’t know I needed, till I fell in love with it and its purpose. Now I can’t go a week without it! Just remember to follow up with a hydrating moisturiser like the cooling Tasmanian Spring Water Hydration Boost Cream afterwards to put some goodness back into your skin.

Most common skincare topic your followers ask for your advice on?
I get asked about hydration A LOT. I feel like most people’s skin, (especially if you live in Melbourne) is always feeling dry or dehydrated. I’m always striving for that glowy look but as I mentioned above, it does not come naturally at all. I love a good sheet mask, and layering serums like the Tasmanian Spring Water Splash Serum followed by the Dreamy Glow Drops to achieve the ultimate glow. My best advice would be to use an oil at night or a hydrating mask. Sleep in that bad boy and wake up with glowing skin.
As a skincare guru, what skincare trends are you predicting for 2021?
I really hope that SPF stays as a trend forever but..... As for new trends, skincare supplements have been such a craze and I feel like it’s only going to get bigger in 2021. Supplements are suddenly sexy and I’m here for it! The idea of being able to drink something delicious that’s going to help your skin is a yes from me. Also I feel like personalised skincare is becoming more popular in facial clinics. We shall see if I’m correct...
